Turibio Santos
Turibio Santos is considered by international critics and music experts as one of the best classical guitarists of today.
He has toured the world several times, playing in the most important music centers, with outstanding reviews for his concerts, his 65 LPs recorded for Erato-WEA (Paris), Chant du Monde (Paris), Kuarup, Visom and Ritornelo (Rio de Janeiro), and his music collections published by Max-Eschig (Paris) and Ricordi (São Paulo).
Turibio Santos has shared the stage with great music celebrities such as Yehudi Menuhin, M. Rostropovitch, Victoria de Los Angeles and Jean-Pierre Rampal; and was accompanied by orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre J. F. Paillard, Orchestre National de L'Opéra de Monte-Carlo, Concerts Pasdeloup, Concerts Colonne, Orquestra Sinfônica Brasileira, etc.
His activity with Brazilian musicians is intense, and has led him to rediscover and record composers such as João Pernambuco, Garoto and Dilermando Reis. In 1983 created the Rio de Janeiro Guitar Orchestra with 25 of this students from UNI-RIO and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has recently created the Brazilian Guitar Orchestra. His albuns 12 Estudies for Guitar by Heitor Villa-Lobos and Choros do Brasil were definitive marks in the launch of Brazilian music in the European market.
In 1999, he recorded all the works of Villa-Lobos for Guitar besides composers like Edino Krieger, Sérgio Barboza, Nicanor Teixeira, Chiquinha Gonzaga, E. Nazareth, in a series of five CDs to commemorate the 500 years of Brazilian Discovery.
In 2006 he has recorded five concerts for guitar and orchestra, which are: “Brazilian Pictures”, and “The World is Big”, by Sérgio Barboza, “Danças Concertantes”, by Edino Krieger, “Concerto” and “Introdução para Choros”, by Heitor Villa-Lobos. The first three concerts were dedicated to Turíbio Santos. The CD was released in 2007 in Rob Digital Records and was nomined to 2008 Latin Grammy Awards. The CD “Violão Amigo” (Friendly Guitar) and "Mistura Brasileira" were released during the first semester of 2008, with melody by Villa-Lobos, Tom Jobim, Turíbio Santos, and Ricardo Santos for "Delira" Music.
Turibio Santos is one of the founders of UNESCO's Conseil D'Entraide Musicale.
